How do you know when chlamydia is cured completely?

If you have taken your chlamydia treatment correctly, it is highly likely to be effective, so you should not need to do another test. If you are worried, you can take another test.

As many people with chlamydia do not have symptoms, another test is the only way to be sure that chlamydia is cured completely. This is most effective six weeks after completing treatment. It is sometimes called a ‘test of cure’.

Chlamydia reinfection is very common, particularly among people under 25. You can get another chlamydia infection even if you have recently completed treatment. If you have had unprotected sex with a new partner, you should take another test.
