How do men get trichomoniasis and how to treat it?

Trichomoniasis is a sexually transmitted infection (STI). This means it's passed on by sexual intercourse, sexual contact and touching between people, including using sex toys, where bodily fluids are shared. Using a barrier method like condoms can help prevent getting or passing on an STI.

Trichomoniasis is treated quickly and easily with a course of antibiotics. It's important to take the full course. Do not have sex whilst you are on treatment (and wait at least 7 days since starting treatment before resuming sex).

It's important that any current and recent sexual partners are tested and treated, if they are not, this increases the risk of reinfection.

Some clinics may ask you to do a test of cure 4 weeks after completing treatment to check the infection has cleared.
