Do I have to be a certain age to get contraception?

You can get contraception at any age. And all contraception services will be private and confidential, including if you’re under 16 years old.

If you're under 16, you’ll be able to get contraception after talking with a clinician. There are strict guidelines that medical staff have to follow when working with people under 16. So they might need to ask you a few questions. They won’t contact your parents or carers.

The only time they might want to tell someone about the things you’ve told them is if they think you’re at risk of harm or abuse. They will usually talk to you about this before they talk to your parents or anyone else.
