How often should I get tested?

If you are sexually active, we recommend you take an STI test once a year. Even if you have no symptoms or are in a long-term, monogamous relationship.

Some STIs have no symptoms so without getting tested you may not even realise you have one.

In some situations, you should test more regularly:

  • if you have multiple partners you should consider getting tested every 3 months

  • if you are starting a new relationship, it is good practice that both you and your new partner get tested

  • if you have noticed any STI symptoms such as discharge or rashes, you should get tested

  • if you had unprotected sex with someone who does not know their STI status or who has an STI, you should get tested.
