Can a Pregnancy Test detect an STI?

No, a pregnancy test cannot detect an STI. Pregnancy tests check for the hormone HCG which is present in early pregnancy. The test will only tell you if you are pregnant or not.

STI tests check for the bacteria or viruses that cause STIs. Different tests are used for different infections. If you think you may be pregnant, and you are worried about STIs, you should get tested. Most STIs can be easily treated during pregnancy.
