Does ellaOne work if you ve already ovulated?

EllaOne is a type of hormonal emergency contraception pill (‘morning after pill’). It contains Ulipristal acetate which prevents or delays ovulation (the egg being released from your ovaries) and so reduces the risk of pregnancy. However, it is only effective if taken before you ovulate and will not protect you against pregnancy if you have unprotected sex during the rest of your menstrual cycle.

Ellaone may also prevent other types of hormonal contraception from working for a week after use.

An intrauterine copper device (IUD) is the most effective form of emergency contraception. It can be inserted within 5 days of unprotected sex, or within 5 days of the earliest expected time of ovulation (whichever is later).
