Can a doctor tell if you have taken the emergency pill?

The emergency pill, also called the morning after pill, works by preventing your body from releasing an egg. This means that, as long as you have taken the pill soon after sex, it can stop you from getting pregnant.

The drugs that are in the emergency pill do not show up in standard blood tests. A doctor will not be able to tell if you have taken the emergency pill.

However, if you're seeing a doctor for any health issue and you've taken the emergency pill in the last month, it's important that you tell the doctor. Your doctor needs to have a full picture of everything which might impact your health, including taking the emergency pill.

Everything you tell your doctor is confidential.
