How can we help?

Can a doctor tell if you have taken the emergency pill?

The emergency pill (also called the morning after pill) works by preventing your body from releasing an egg. This means that, as long as you have taken the pill soon after sex, it can stop you from getting pregnant. The drugs that are in the emergency pill do not show up in standard blood tests and a doctor will not be able to tell if you have taken the emergency pill.

However, if you are seeing a doctor for any health issue and you have taken the emergency pill in the last month, it is important that you tell the doctor. This is because your doctor needs to have a full picture of everything which might impact your health, including taking the emergency pill. Everything you tell your doctor is confidential.
